She Was A Warrior Princess-Zipporah
She was a Warrior princess: Zipporah.
Warrior Princess, have you ever had someone prejudge you before they even got to know who you are? Zipporah, the wife of Moses, is a Warrior Princess. Her story isn't one most people talk about, but it is very significant. I would say this is one of the first interracial marriage spoken about in the bible. Moses was an Israelite and Zipporah was a Cushite, a woman of African descent. Yes, it is true. Their story began when Moses ran after committing his crime and came to the land of her father where they met and was married.
She played a significant roll in Moses life, when the Lord came upon them on their way to Egypt, neither of their sons were circumcised, and the Lord was about to kill Moses. It was wife Zipporah who acted fast and circumcises their son saving his life. This is one powerful point in her story, but the most powerful portion of her story is how the Lord responded when Moses sister Miriam talked terribly about her due to, she was a Cushite woman. Sound familiar? The Lord was not pleased and dealt with Miriam by striking her with leprosy for seven days.
Zipporah story reminds us that when we prejudge others, it does not please the Lord. Zipporah was His beloved and her obedience in circumcising her sons when Moses had not saved her husband, and it saved the Israelite out of Egypt. Think about that for a moment. Moses would lead the Israelite to their freedom, but it almost came to an end due to that one act of disobedient which nearly cost him his life on the way to meet with Pharaoh.
I don’t know what Miriam knew about Zipporah, but I think she didn’t know about how her sister-in-law changed the outcome of her and others freedom. All she could see was that she was different, someone who didn't look like her and it caused her to reap a consequence she didn't see coming. As a warrior princess, we need to be careful about how and what we think about others; how they who don't look like us or if they don't think like us. We each play an essential part in this story we call life.
